Cookies with Wes

As you can see, our cookie jar on the counter was fresh out of cookies. When I asked Wesley what we should do about it, he told me "we should make COOKIES." We took to his suggestion and whipped up a batch of the no-bake variety, Wesley's all-time favorite.

He calls them "chocolate cookies" and eats them like they're going out of style! Thankfully they are choc-full of oatmeal, so at least he's getting in some grains as he chows down.

He really wanted to help, and if you know three-year-olds, they don't like to take "no" for an answer. So I carefully showed him how to stir the chocolaty goodness while I monitored very closely to make sure he wasn't getting to close to the heat.

He was so good to stir and stir and stir. I kept asking him if his arm was tired, and he kept saying no. He was very determined to give these cookies his all.

When it came time to scoop the cookies onto the cookie sheet to set up, he insisted that he help in this part, too. He got out his own two spoons and went to work.

And that orange you see: that is Wesley's signature. He was dead-set on decorating them with the clementine orange he peeled for himself, and again would not take "no" for an answer. He placed an orange slice on a few of the cookies and was quite pleased with his accomplishment. What a sweet, funny boy he is.
